How much French do I need for Express Entry?
French-language category rounds require NCLC 7 in all four abilities on TEF Canada or TCF Canada. French also adds CRS points from NCLC 7 upward.
To be considered in a French-language proficiency category round of Express Entry, you need NCLC 7 or higher in all four abilities — reading, writing, listening and speaking — on TEF Canada or TCF Canada. French also adds Comprehensive Ranking System bonus points from NCLC 7 upward, and more when English results are also strong. Below NCLC 7, French adds no category eligibility.

Who may qualify?
- Candidates from Francophone countries with professional or academic French
- Bilingual candidates who already meet English requirements for a program
- Candidates whose base CRS score is below general-round cut-offs but who can reach NCLC 7 in French
