How the exam works
Find a panel physician
Use IRCC's official list to find an approved doctor in your country or in Canada.
Book and bring ID
Bring a valid passport or ID, glasses or contact lenses if you wear them, and any medical reports you have been asked for.
Complete the exam
It usually includes a physical exam and, depending on age, a chest X-ray and lab tests.
Upload the proof
Upload the document the physician gives you. IRCC receives your results from the physician.
Timing
Because results generally last 12 months, doing the exam too early can mean repeating it. Most Express Entry candidates do it after receiving an invitation.
Common mistakes
- Going to a regular doctor instead of a panel physician.
- Leaving out a non-accompanying family member.
- Doing the exam long before an invitation and letting it expire.
Frequently asked questions
Does my spouse need a medical exam if they are not coming to Canada?
Generally yes. Family members who are not coming with you usually still need an exam, unless IRCC confirms otherwise.
How long are medical results valid?
Generally 12 months from the date of the exam.
What to do next
