IRCC removed additional CRS points for job offers effective March 25, 2025. The change followed a December 2024 announcement and was implemented through ministerial instructions.
CRS points and program eligibility are different
The removal concerned additional Comprehensive Ranking System points for arranged employment. It did not, by itself, remove every job-offer requirement in federal immigration programs or provincial streams. A job offer could still matter to eligibility even when it did not add those additional CRS points.
A later announcement is not a retroactive change
In October 2026, IRCC announced further changes scheduled for November 3, 2026, including a Labour Market Integration factor and qualifying high-wage occupations. Those announced changes do not make the November rules effective in October. Read the separate high-wage update and check IRCC’s current instructions before interpreting your score.
What to check for your own application
Confirm which federal program you qualify for, whether your provincial stream requires employment, and the rule version effective when your profile is assessed. A job offer alone does not guarantee an invitation or permanent residence. Ask an RCIC to review the conditions for your particular situation.
