IRCC announced changes to Express Entry on October 16, 2026, with a scheduled start date of November 3, 2026. As of October 24, these are announced future changes, not the rules currently in force.
What does “high-wage occupation” mean?
IRCC describes eligibility using occupation-level wage data and NOC classifications, rather than a candidate’s individual salary. Earning a high salary does not, by itself, establish eligibility for the announced points.
Canadian work experience or a qualifying job offer
The announced Labour Market Integration factor provides points through eligible Canadian work experience, including additional points for eligible high-wage occupations, or through a qualifying job offer in an eligible high-wage occupation. These two sources are not combined. The exact occupation and job-offer conditions must be checked on IRCC’s official page.
Existing profiles and invitation rounds
IRCC says profile recalculation may take up to two weeks after the changes take effect, with invitation rounds paused during that period. This is the announced transition, not a guarantee about an individual profile or a future invitation.
Before you act
Keep your profile information accurate and read the effective-date notice on IRCC’s change page. Do not add announced points to your current score before the new rules take effect. Our calculator rules remain a separately reviewed release; this article does not update them. An individual eligibility assessment should be reviewed by an RCIC.
